Frequently asked questions

How is the liquidation price calculated?

For isolated margin: liquidation = entry - (margin / size) for a long and entry + (margin / size) for a short, adjusted for maintenance margin and fees. The tool reproduces that formula for both directions.

How can I move the liquidation price further away?

Add margin (lower leverage), reduce the position size, or set a stop-loss that triggers before the liquidation level. Adding to a losing position moves the liquidation closer, not further.

What is maintenance margin?

Maintenance margin is the minimum collateral that must stay in the position — usually 0.5%-1% of size on major pairs. When your margin drops to this level the exchange liquidates. The calculator adds this buffer plus fees, so the liquidation it shows matches what the exchange will actually use.
